Twenty reasons to put the phone down and explore Carencro
Download Your Free Scavenger Hunt
This October, the City of Carencro is giving kids a reason to put the phone down: a free printable scavenger hunt built around twenty things to spot before Halloween arrives.
A kid outside looking for something notices a town differently than a kid inside looking at a screen. That contrast is why we’re turning this into a new monthly tradition.
The case for scavenger hunts isn’t just a hunch.
According to TeachingTimes, scavenger hunts boost critical thinking. Kids apply what they already know instead of passively receiving information. They solve small problems and make connections as they go, rather than simply memorizing facts.
Here’s how it works.
Download the printable, keep it in the car, tape it to the fridge, or toss it in a backpack. Check items off whenever they turn up, on the drive to school, during a walk around the block, or on the way to trick-or-treat. There’s no deadline and no wrong way to do it. The only goal is finishing the list by Halloween.
Twenty items: jack-o-lanterns, spider webs, spooky yards, scarecrows, and everything else October brings to Carencro’s front yards and store fronts this time of year.
This won’t be a one-time thing.
Our plan is to release a new scavenger hunt every month, built around whatever the season brings: spring flowers, summer bugs, fall decorations, winter lights. Twelve chances a year for kids to get outside, think a little harder, and pay closer attention to the town they call home.
Download your printable below, and see how many you can find before the end of the month.
Curious kids grow up in towns like this one. That’s Carencro, and we intend to keep it that way.
