Carencro Earns Louisiana Development Ready Community Designation
CARENCRO, La. | Growth doesn’t happen by accident. It takes planning, partnerships, and a clear vision for the future.
That’s why the City of Carencro is proud to announce it has been recognized by Louisiana Economic Development (LED) as a Louisiana Development Ready Community (LDRC), becoming the 57th parish or municipality in the state to earn the designation since the program launched in 2008.
The Louisiana Development Ready Communities program helps cities become more competitive for new investment and job creation by guiding local leaders through the development of a long-term economic development strategy. Communities that complete the program establish a roadmap for thoughtful growth while building on the strengths that already make them unique.
For Carencro, that means preparing for the future while staying true to the community residents know and love.
“Congratulations to the City of Carencro and all of the economic development partners who have worked together to achieve this distinction,” said LED Secretary Don Pierson. “The progress that will result from this program will usher in vast opportunities for both businesses and residents, therefore strengthening the local economy and quality of life.”
To earn the designation, the City of Carencro partnered with the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) to complete an extensive community assessment, gather public input, and develop a strategic plan focused on future economic development opportunities. Through surveys, planning sessions, and committee meetings, residents and stakeholders helped shape a vision designed to strengthen both the local economy and quality of life.
Carencro now joins the City of Broussard, Lafayette Consolidated Government, and the City of Scott as the fourth community in Lafayette Parish to receive the Louisiana Development Ready Community designation.
“The administration of the City of Carencro is thrilled to have been designated a Development Ready Community,” said Mayor Charlotte Clavier. “This provides opportunities for both our citizens and our businesses to provide jobs, while investing in the infrastructure to continue the rapid growth Carencro is experiencing. Thank you to LED and LEDA for helping us on this journey. We are excited about the future of Carencro.”
LEDA President and CEO Mandi Mitchell said the designation reflects months of collaboration and positions the city for continued success.
“Congratulations to Mayor Clavier, the Carencro City Council and the city staff on their commitment to earning the LDRC designation,” Mitchell said. “Through this comprehensive process, the City of Carencro has drafted a blueprint for future development, thoughtful growth, and job creation. The designation reinforces what many residents already know. Carencro is growing, but it is committed to growing with purpose. New investment, new businesses, and new opportunities are important, but so is protecting the culture, relationships, and community spirit that have defined Carencro for generations.
